We had a WONDERFUL Book Fair!  Thank you to Miss Rita and Miss Susan for set up, take down, and extra hours of work.  Special thanks are extended to Michelle Pellicciotti, Patricia Farnsworth, Kelly Baker, Mary Josephson, Laura Lampley, Meredith Joheim, and Sarah Kaza for volunteering their time to work the fair.  We sold $6089.55 in books.  Our school received half of this amount in books for our classrooms and for the AR library.

The 2-year-old children will enjoy lots of March artwork.  The color green and the numbers 1-10 will be stressed.  The children will continue working on shapes and concepts.  PLEASE help us by encouraging potty training at home.

The 2 ½-year-old children will continue their practice with scissors and are working weekly on their colors, shapes, and letter and number recognition.  They will work on St. Patrick’s Day projects, concentrating on the color green.  Their letters this month are U, V and W.  Remember that every Wednesday is Share Day!

The 3-year-old children will continue working on letter recognition, focusing on S, T, U and V.  Spanish is going great!!  This month and last, we have concentrated on animal names and are reviewing colors.  Ask your child to say his colors in Spanish; you will be surprised!  After Spring break, we will begin practicing for our Spring Program.  Practice time is at 8:30 sharp, in the gym.  Children need to be at school by 8:20 to get lunches ordered and into the gym by 8:30.  Please be on time.  We only have a limited time to practice, and it is very hard to add a child once we have started the practice.

The 3 ½-year-old children have finished their second workbook and will celebrate their success with a Teddy Bear picnic.  Please send a Teddy Bear with your child on Friday, March 5 so your child and his Teddy bear can enjoy muffins with grape jelly and lemonade just like the picnic in the circle workbook.  They will begin their final rectangle workbook during March.  The children will concentrate on squares and rectangles, the colors green, orange and black and will learn about all types of community helpers.  They will continue working on writing and recognizing their alphabet, numbers and their names.  The children continue to enjoy their computer time with Miss Rita.

The 3 and 3 ½-year-old children’s “End of the Year” program will be Friday morning, April 30th..  Mark your calendar (details to follow).

The cookie sale fundraiser has been cancelled.  With the Valentine Treat fundraiser, the Book Fair and plans for another T-shirt sale, we decided to wait until fall to sell cookies.

Thank you to Larry Parker, Deanna Scott, Amanda Adair, Heather Weber, Greg Dahlem, Michelle Yonkey, Jackie DeMott, Mindy DeMarco, Kelly Baker, Debbie Harger, Kim Woodyard, Jay Jennings, and Laura Hyatt, for volunteering their time at the basketball games on Saturday, February 20th at the Anthony School.  Miss Selma’s is asked to work two Saturdays during the season in exchange for letting us play in the Private School League without offering a full court gym.  Some of these special people worked both Saturdays.  THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

In computer, the 5th and 6th grades are expanding their computer knowledge to include Power Point, downloading, and creating folders.  These are processes they will be expected to know in the 7th and 8th grades.  We want our students to be as prepared as possible for their entire academic career.  The 6th grade will also publish a quarterly newsletter named “T” Street Times.  They will report, write, design and publish this newsletter as part of their English and Computer classes.  We can’t wait for issue #1.

In Spanish, the children are working on building everyday vocabulary. All grades are practicing conversational Spanish.  The fifth grade is preparing for their annual trip to a Mexican restaurant where they will only speak in Spanish from the time they leave school until they finish lunch.  It should be fun and hopefully not too quiet.  In 6th grade the students are learning about Don Quijote and his interesting life.

Art has been consumed with the Young Artist Art Center contest.  The children, Miss Deanna, Miss Amber, and Miss Lizzie did a wonderful job during January and most of February preparing for this show.   During March, Miss Deanna has several art projects planned.  Please visit artsonia.com to view projects from this year.  In music, the children will begin learning their dances for our program.  This year the music will be from the world of “i” – ipod, icat, idog, iphone, just to name a few.  As always, it’s sure to be another hit!
